Location: St John's Wood, north London Site description: A flat garden with one level up towards the middle of the garden. The garden had some mature trees and unkempt shrubs. The brief: To redesign the garden in a modern style, keeping the trees and shrubs that has relevance to the new scheme. The design process: The most difficult design is the one that has to be redesigned. Roberto presented a sketch proposal suggesting two circles made of granite sets edging the lawn. Between the circles, several circular row of granite sets create a pattern integrating the two circles in one organic form. A small secret area on the left was constructed with bricks. A metal frame was brought to the end of the area to add interest .He planted two rows of lavender in each side. A birdhouse was turn into a focal point on the second part of lawn. Lonicera americana was trained in the posts to hide the post and add colour. The steps in the patio that used to be in one side of the garden had a new design. A stucco wall was built and the steps planted with dwarf box hedging. The trees were thinned out. Some of the shrubs were removed and transplanted to accommodate the new lay out. Other shrubs were kept for their ornamental value. A new herbaceous border were planted all around the steps with Euphorbias, Hostas, Geraniumn, Convolvulus cneorum, etc. |
