A balcony overlooking the Thames

Site description: A long and narrow balcony overlooking the Thames.

The brief: Simple design where the view of the river is maximised.

The design process: On a consultancy basis two sketches were proposed; one used rectangular planters around the balcony, these would be planted with small grasses to fully exploit the view of the river. While a second, which the client chose, used three planters on either side thus allowing maximum space to entertain friends, while taking full advantage of the view.

Major hardlandscape materials: Granite and white cobbles.

Major softlandscape materials: Trachycarpus fortunei, Agave americana and Agapanthus

The final result: A small tranquil space to enjoy alone or with friends.
