A contemporary roof terrace

Location: North London

Site description: A flat and square site facing south

The brief: Contemporary garden with a clean look using modern materials.

The design process: "Roberto Silva has been commissioned to work on an unfinished project to design a roof terrace that was started by another designer. His plan for 11.5 x 11.5m space, which is already decked, is to make an extension of the living room that looks out onto it. The walls will be rendered and painted orchid white (the same as the interior colour).

Keeping the concept simple, Roberto plans a flat steel water feature 1.2-m high x 3m wide along the main wall, which will take up as little space as possible. It will be uplit with five spotlights set into the deck. The water feature will be flanked by two steel containers, planted with cloud - clipped box and ophiopogon japonicus." Garden's Illustrated

Major hardlandscaping materials: stainless steel, Iroko decking and rendered walls.

Major softlandscaping materials: Cloud shaped Buxus sempervirens and Ophiopogum japonicus " Nigrences".
